when did this fire take place and where on the lake was the Inn ???

NHKathy: The inn was on the eastern shore of Alton Bay on the East Side Road (28A) no more than a mile up from the town beach. The inn was built in 1903 and the fire took place around 3:00 p.m. on April 3, 1989. The fire was of suspicious origin. The site is vacant now. The old steps can still be seen near the side of the road and the dock is still there. McD

Has it been gone that long? I still remember seeing movies there. It was closer than going to ythe Hatch in Wolfeboro or the Colonial in Laconia.

What a sad day that was. I will never forget it. My boss was on the Tuftonboro Volunteer Fire Company at the time and he told me the Inn was completely gone in 45 minutes. It was a great old place. What a loss to the history and atmosphere of the lake.
