This is a great egret (sometimes called a white heron), seldom seen as far north as NH. A check with the NH Audubon Society revealed another sighting in NH in the same time frame a little west of here - perhaps the same bird. He stayed in our area for several days. Note the abundance of purple flower spikes of the common marsh plant, pickerel weed.
