Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly. Thought my friend came back for another visit. Looked like he landed on our boat. When I went to investigate, I found it floating in the water upside down. This is definitely a different butterfly than the first. It was very friendly too. Stayed on me for over an hour after I dried and warmed it up.

June, 2009, has been especially favorable for large numbers of the Eastern "Tiger" Swallowtail: they're everywhere. ("Tiger", for the black/yellow stripes). According to my book, you've got the male of the species there. The right wing has a chunk missing near the tail—most likely from a bird, based on the shape—plus we don't have too many lizards in New Hampshire.
