Merrymeeting Marsh begins just below the New Durham Fish Hatchery and, with a few brief interruptions of high ground, extends for 9 miles to Alton Bay. Much of it is a State Wildlife Management Area, and it has become a versatile recreation area, hosting birders, fishermen, hunters, canoers & kayakers, photographers, and other admirers of the natural world. This photo represents a tiny section of it off Rte 11, about 1 mile above the dedicated boat launch site in New Durham.
