Canaan Valley is surrounded on 3 sides by mountains or high hills, and on the 4th side by Dan Hole Pond. It seems frozen in time, having essentially escaped development pressure, and it still looks much like it must have 100 yrs ago. Background mts include Black Snout, Shaw, Flagg, Canaan and Sentinel Mts.
