West Alton Brook closely parallels Rte 11A in West Alton, as one drives westerly toward Gilford. After one drives about 1.3 miles on 11A, the brook passes through a culvert under the road, just a little before you get to the Alton/Gilford town line. This photo shows the part of the brook just a short distance below the culvert, where the terrain is fairly steep and the brook has cut deeply into the ground and created a fairly wild-looking scene, with maturely-wooded and steeply sloped brookside banks and numerous rapids.
