I was on my deck in Young's Cove when this gaudy-colored bird appeared about ten yards away. At first I thought it was hurt, but then, as I looked closer, I saw that those were feathers and not blood.

After reviewing many books, it appears to be a male purple finch in full regalia. If you have more information about this bird, please contact me.

Bright, blood red crown, chin, neck and back. Brown and white wing feathers with grey and reddish underparts.
