Northern Hawk Owl-female

On Sunday, 2/16/09 at 4:00pm, I saw this owl perched on a tree behind the Canoe Restaurant in Center Harbor, NH.
I was told by The Audubon Society that this was a rare sighting and that this owl only visits this area every 3 to 5 years.

I shoot a Canon EOS 50D, Digital, with a Tamron 200-500 telephoto lense, on a Gitzo Tripod. I had to shoot at1/1000 @ f6.3, 500mm, with ISO 100.

He has been here for a few weeks now is apparently much further South than it usually is. I believe they are from further up North, the canadian region? The newspaper stated that they come about every 10 years. I have seen him a couple times from a distance so far, pretty neat.

WOW...I've never seen one!

I'm reading of a 33-inch wingspan, and a reputation of active aggressiveness when nesting...

Believe it or not, I never saw it's wing span! He sat in that tree for over two hours. Alby
