I don't see much of a beach... and he is a bit close although he looks like he's done this before.
I don't think there was a 150' rule back then. I remember doing dock starts and dropping offs at a dock or the beach too. My brother would dock start on 2 skis, I'd make a short loop while he took off a ski (not drop a ski) and then place it on the dock/raft as we swung by. We had a spotter on the dock/raft who was usually next in the line of kids to ski... Plus there were no restrictions on how many you could tow. I managed to get 8 at one time up on skis behind Dad's Sea Que - and we didn't have 8 observers over 13 - just 2. We did have a boat following us to pick up anyone that might fall though (and another boat with parents taking pictures). Other times we often skied with 2, 3,4 or 5 behind the boat. Ahh the late '60's.
So what could be wrong with that picture...? Hmmm. It's a great action shot for that era but it is slightly blurred - maybe out of focus but that's stretching it.

No Ski Vest (PFD) but back then a belt was all that was needed.
Ah the good old days. Used to ski off the beach at Sandy Point. WE chewed up the bottoms of the skis on all the little rocks. Formica on the bottoms helped stop that. Guys would start on a slalom ski standing on one foot with a few loops of rope in one hand so the boat could get a flying start.
I once used the stone wall on the Beach Motel to stop!

I came in too fast onto a sandy beach, somersaulted forwards one turn—then stood up—as though that's what I'd intended to do!

When my friends and I were at the "top of our game", the cool thing to do, was water ski without getting wet all over. We'd stand on the dock with one ski held above the water, and just as the slack ran out we would yell, "Hit it", and jump. Then after your run, you'd try to land right next to the dock so you could grab it before you sank. If you were really cool, you'd try to make it up the canoe ramp, but the gods needed to be with you for that! I once made a sitting dock take off, but wasn't aware of the nail head sticking up about 1/8 th of an inch, so my bathing suit ripped out at the rear. I didn't go too far before I dropped off, (I felt a draft). All this created gales of laughter from my so called "friends" and relatives.
