A view south from along the Precipice Path, located on the southern slope of Straightback Mt, where it follows several hundred yds of sheer cliff face and offers many fine views to the south and west. Belknap Lakes is a name coined by Mc Dude, I think, to identify a handful of small lakes that lie just south and west of Alton Bay, 3 of which can be seen in this photo. Closest is Hills Pond, showing its annual algae bloom at its northernmost point; just to the right and above that is Sunset Lake; and furthest back is Crystal Lake. Crystal Lake is the largest of the 3, but so little of it shows here that it looks to be the smallest. On the horizon, near the middle, is the double-summited Catamount Mt, located in Pittsfield.
