The Hidden Valley Scout Camp is located close by the shores of little Lake Eileen. A path goes completely around the small lake which, on one side, passes through a forest that has been left undisturbed for a very long time and now looks much like the forest in this area must have looked when the earliest settlers arrived in the mid 1700's. It passes thru some very picturesque terrain, featuring ledgy outcrops, large boulders and erratics, and a very mature forest which provides a park-like setting. Note the large trees and quite open setting caused by the deep shade produced by the thick canopy created by those trees. Also note the tree that started life as a seedling on top of a large boulder and eventually had to send its roots down over the rock into the deeper soil below in order to get enough food to continue to grow. It also needed to anchor itself better to avoid being blown over in a storm. Even now it is poorly anchored on at least one side - fortunately all the tall trees around it provide a buffer against the strong winds that now pass mostly over or around it.
