As hikers approach the Bald Knob outlook on the Bald Knob Trail at the Castle property, the final approach on that carriage road, for about 150 yds, had to be carved out of the sheer rock of the mountainside - a significant example of early 20th century engineering for this area at that time. This approach provides an excellent introduction to the soon-to-be-seen grand Bald Knob panorama of the Lake and the surrounding scenes, since every now and then you get a view through the trees of a scene like this. Once at the large Bald Knob ledges, the scene is magnified manyfold.
