This modestly-sized snapping turtle was seen as it successfully completed a hazardous task - getting across the road safely. It was headed for an old abandoned gravel pit where the chances are it was hoping to lay and bury this year's eggs in a safe place to hatch. It had probably just left a brook known as Pokamoonshine Brook (that could conjur up images of impromptu local enterprises of the Prohibition Era of the early 1900's).
