I noticed this porcupine apparently asleep in a pine tree beside the trail as I hiked up to the summit of Whiteface Mt in the Belknaps this morning. I took several different shots of him, from different angles to try to avoid branches interfering with the shot, and at no time did he show any sign that he was aware of me at all. The photo seems to show him with his eyes closed and I do believe that he was sleeping in the mid-morning sunshine.
