Geocaching is a newly invented sport that involves high tech gadgetry and the excitement of an old-fashioned treasure hunt. It can be enjoyed by almost anyone from youngsters to octogenarians. The following link tells something about its history and practices. It started in the year 2000 and has spread to all 7 continents (including Antarctica) - more than 240,000 caches have been hidden worldwide and there are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of these simulated treasures hidden throughout the Lakes Region also. The Belknaps and the Ossipees both have many cache sites now. This photo shows a clue (a moose skull to identify a cache labled Bullwinkle's Resting Place) left in a tree to help identify the location of a geocache on Mt Roberts in the Ossipees.
