To many hikers of the Belknap Mountains, Round Pond is the jewel of the range. It is a relatively pristine, unsullied example of a high elevation (1100 ft higher than Winnipesaukee) mountain pond, nestled in a depression formed by 4 surrounding mountains, Suncook, Heator, Klem and Mack. It is located close to the center of the range, slightly to the west, where the highest peaks of the range are found. It is about 20 acres in size, surrounded on all sides by mature forest, and is about as quiet and peaceful a spot as one could hope to find these days. In this photo, looking westerly from the eastern shore, we see Mt Belknap, the highest peak of the Belknap Range, in the background at the right, and Suncook Mt in the center midground.
