'Wish I'd taken windsurfing lessons when they first appeared. (Being less weighty then would have helped).
At 50-MPH in smooth water, they're in the running for fastest sailing device alongside of full-sized catamarans. Kite surfing is yet another animal: they don't have PFDs—they have "crash jackets"!
