Edward Downing owned the gas dock with a small arcade, and Downing's R.E. beside the bridge. The story I heard was that he wanted the town to have a decent town dock as the one they had was not very nice or in good repair. I believe Richard Downing may have been Edwards son but I am not positive.
Robert Jones listed on the plaque was 1/2 owner of Downing's Boat Yard, now Parker Marine with his brother Downing Jones. Robert was a former racing boat driver. Robert and his brother Downing were relatives of Edward. Nephew's I believe.
I remember the building of the docks and how we all liked how nice they were. Many more boaters could dock there with the new docks.

Interesting, Richard Downing who is listed on the plaque, passed away this past week, after a period of declining health.
