Yesterday, as I was driving along Middle Route in Gilmanton, I was somewhat surprised to spot splashes of color in a small swampy area as I drove past. The swamp maples have started taking on their fall colors - they are usually among the first colors to see, even starting in late summer, but this seems a bit early, even for them. Perhaps the grayness of the day emphacized the colors more than usually would be the case.
