Ravens, rarely seen around here 50 years ago, are now quite common to our area. They are considered to be quite intelligent, able to solve complex situations scientists put them into and capable of manipulating other animals to do some of their work for them. Because of their intelligence and their sometimes mischievious, fun-loving behaviour they have been the subject of myths and legends, especially for native Americans of the pre-colonial era. This bird was sitting in a red pine tree on the edge of the steep cliff on W Rattlesnake Mt at Squam Lake. The raven appears to be looking at the top of the tree canopy below the cliff.
