I could be referring to views like this being the inspiration required to compel hikers to make the sometimes long and arduous trips to mountain summits. But I happen to be referring to the hiker, a gentleman over 80 years old who has just made a solo hike to Mt Shaw from Canaan Valley, a distance of about 8 mi (round trip) with an elevation gain of about 2200 ft. He climbs mountains regularly throughout the Lakes Region and folks like him give inspiration and hope to us hikers who are getting a bit long in the tooth and are worrying about how much longer we can continue to enjoy our passion to hike. This man also plays a major role in maintaining the Mt Roberts Trail at the Castle, a contribution to be much appreciated by any who may use the path and enjoy the beautiful views from that trail.
