This Shannon Brook falls, located at Castle in the Clouds, was named in honor of John Greenleaf Whittier, a famous American poet of the late 19th century, who once visited the falls and commented on its remarkable beauty. Whittier, a Massachusetts resident, loved the lakes and mountains of NH and visited those areas often and wrote many poems about them, doing as much as anyone to popularize these NH regions as prime tourist destinations.
