In 1900 buildings were scattered over these fields - e.g. - the Lee farm (built in 1790) at the extreme left and Ossipee Park's Weelahka Hall (with numerous outbuildings) at the far right. In 1913 Tom Plant began developing his 6500 acre Lucknow empire (extending from the tops of the high mountains in the background all the way to Winnipesaukee-over a mile of shorefront) and made a 9-hole golf course on this site, razing all the buildings. Pres. Teddy Roosevelt reputedly played golf here when he visited Plant. Wanting something still better, he later built the 18-hole Bald Peak golf course near his lakefront property, now one of the premiere courses in the state. Lucknow (the Castle) was built on the hill near the far right background.
