Turkey vultures have in recent years become a prominent feature in the skys of the Lakes Region. Their heads are featherless (for sanitary reasons) and appear red when they are seen at close distances - from further distances they appear to be blackish. Vultures seem to be curious birds and often fly close to people on mountain tops, which provided an opportunity for this shot.
