"Alton Bay is located one mile north of the Town of Alton and is one of the most picturesque and widely known summer spots of New England. Here may be found modern hotels and tourist homes, speed boats, seaplanes, dancing fishing and fine swimming. Twice each day the clear whistle of the "Mount" calls to all and a scurry of excitement runs through the bay as the majestic boat docks." (There was even once a miniature railroad amusement ride at Downing's Launch Site)
