Knights Pond is a conservation area in Alton that is over 30 acres in size and is surrounded by a fully mature coniferous forest, with many magnificent specimens of large hemlock. It is also a site rich in wildlife, which, if you are careful and lucky, you might get a chance to observe. Both Rines Hill and Longstack Mts come right down to the shoreline, giving it the feel of a mountain pond. Longstack's steep SW slope provides an interesting walk along a 'wild pond' that is less than 1/2 mile from Rte 28. The remaining shoreline is varied, including a 12 A marsh leading westerly from its outlet which you can explore as well. The photo shows Longstack Mt from the SW side of the pond.
