I was driving back to our house from our marina, when I saw this beautiful line up of sails. The setting sun created that painting like quality found on many a canvas. I quickly returned with my camera and started shooting.

For those unsure of "Belknap Point", it's off Glendale via Rt. 11, near the Marine Patrol Headquarters.

The three boats to the right have see-through vinyl panels called "windows". The boat nearest the camera—"to-windward" of the others—is most likely in the lead! Depending on the length of this race course leg, he may shortly be "blanking" the others by "stealing their wind" and be still further ahead. With these boats about 90° to the direction of the wind, these J-80 boats are on a "beam reach"...a very favorable direction of wind for speed.

Nicely framed, and by the looks of your other fine sailing photos, a very "long" lens.

Hi ACRES; WOW! you really know a lot about sail boats. My deck is a little closer to Lincoln Park, so I have the opportunity to wait for the best day and time. I use a 500mm lens on a Canon 50D, digital camera, with a sturdy tripod. We don't want any vibration, ya know. Not at that distance. Have a happy holiday! ALBY
