A view from the southerly shore of Crystal Lake. In the midground is Shannon Mt, of the southern Belknaps, and, behind it, is Rand Mt, of the northern Belknaps - there is a distance of a bit more than 2 miles between them. Both of them provide good views to the south from ledgy sites near their summits - the ledges of Shannon are visible in the photo; 3 sets of ledges (only 2 of which show here) provide fine views to the north, south and west (several previous posts have shown them). A short trail, starting from the Hidden Valley Scout camp in Gilmanton, leads at a moderate grade to those ledges - public access is provided. The view from Rand is more difficult to access, since you have to hike the Quarry Trail to see them and the 2 trailheads to that trail both start from points already deep inside the range.
