A look at Harriet's Cascade after the first substantial snowstorm of this winter. The cascade is a small feature of the series of flumes, pools, gorges and falls along Shannon Brook that made up the historic old hiking path known as Brook Walk at Ossipee Park in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whose scenes were enjoyed by such leading lights of those days as John Greenleaf Whittier, Lucy Larcom and Robert Frost - Whittier and Larcom each have a mountain of the Ossipee Range (northern part) named for them. The path, closed for many decades due to flood damage, has recently been reopened by the LRCT at their Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area so that this impressive series of mountain stream features can once again be enjoyed by the general public. This small cascade was named for the wife of B. F. Shaw, the founder of Ossipee Park, a well-known resort of its day.
