Great Blue Herons don't like to share their fishing grounds with other Herons.



They'll draw blood from larger birds that encroach and will barely tolerate other bird species that hunt in a different manner than Herons' "stalk-and-snatch" technique.



The Heron on the post appears wary: My guess is that the "Alpha" Heron (on the boulder—closest to any fish) would chase the other off within a few moments after this photo was taken. A territorial chase can last for over a mile!
