A map drawn in 1865, using a previous map from 1842 - perhaps of interest to owners of property around Merrymeeting Lake. Interesting to note that Mt Bet was then called Mt Betty. Mt Molly, Devil's Den, and Copple Crown (spelled Gropple Crown?) and Birch Hill were named as they are today, but Caverly Mt has a different name. Coldrain Pond and Merrymeeting were named the same, but Chalk Pond was considered part of Marchs Pond (not even connected then) and Shaws Pond was called Long Pond. The map is slightly confusing - for instance, Shaws Pond (named Long Pond here) is really to the north of Merrymeeting, not the east, as it appears to be here, but this map makes no claim to be oriented North and South, as we expect maps to be oriented today.
