Shannon Pond was created by Tom Plant in the early 1900's. Robert Frost spent one summer within a few hundred yards of this site, in a dilapidated old farmhouse, in order to be near his fiance, who was summering at Ossipee Park. He developed a life-long passion for mountain-climbing from his experiences at the park. Some of his later works were inspired by his experiences that summer.
