Last summer we had a duck nest on our Rattlesnake Island property. The mother didn’t make the best choice of where to build. The large boulder was reasonably safe from the front, but predators could run right up the back of the rock because it was almost like a ramp. We blocked it from our dog Mac and kept him clear of the area, but something else got to her eggs despite the blockade. It was heartbreaking to have her quacking at the shore looking for her hatched babies that were no longer there. I suppose Mother Nature has her own plan. I hope the ducks will by-pass our yard this year… it’s too stressful!
