Mt Shaw provides what is probably the best view to the mountains of the north from the Lakes Region. The bottom half of this picture is taken up by mountains of the Ossipee Range, with peaks shown, like Larcom at the left to Thurley, Knox and Racoon, stepping down toward Ossipee Lake at the right. In about the center of the Ossipees is bare-topped Bayle Mt, where one gets remarkable views of the inside of the collapsed caldera of the old volcano of several million years ago. On the left the Sandwich Range, an important feature of the Lakes Region viewscape, is identified, showing peaks of the range from the west (Tripyramid) to the east (Chocorua). Just past Bald Mt and Mt Whittier of the Ossipees you see the Moat Mts, the dominant feature of the view to the west from N Conway. Some major peaks on the horizon, from Washington in the far north to Green Mt in the east, are identified. The 3 water bodies visible in the photo are also named.
