Default Lakes REGION PHOTO BOOK

On behalf of our company and the great contributors who made "The Lakes Region of New Hampshire: Four Seasons, Countless Memories" such a great book, we'd like to donate one of the 300 casebound hand-numbered and signed first editions of the book.
Thanks to "rattlesnakegal" and her enthusiasm about the book, we plan to be on the ForumFest IV cruise, signing and selling books - all profits will go to the charity.
If you have any questions about the book or our activities, please contact us at www.carboneproductions.com
Sincerely,
Ray Carbone

Thumbs up Fantastic!

Thanks WriterRay for the wonderful donation!
It was nice meeting you last Saturday in Wolfeboro.

The Penny Candy Shop in Wolfeboro will be donating a candy basket.

Flags over Winnipesaukee will also be making a donation of some kind.
When you bring in your old flag to be retired by the American Legion, Harriman-Hale Post 18, you will receive 10% off a new US flag at Flags over Winnipesaukee!

The Olde Bay Diner in Alton Bay has donated a gift certificate for our raffle. Margie will also be donating some yummy bread. A loaf of homemade cinnamon bread and a loaf of homemade raisin bread. (I hope I win these!)

Red Cranberries in Alton will also be making a donation of some kind to our ForumFest raffle. (This is one of the shops that McDude sells some of his Postcard Gallery prints!) This place is much bigger than it looks from the outside!

Many thanks to WinnDixie for her generous donation! I'm sorry you cannot attend this year's FF!

Thumbs up A Couple More Donations!

Our Webmaster had given me the idea for a ForumFest that would support Lakes Region and the businesses. I have been trying to collect a few items/gift certificates from around the lake that will help bring awareness to our local establishments. So far I have had incredible response from the few places that I have visited.

Last week I sent an e-mail to Funspot asking if they would like to contribute a little something. They were incredibly generous by donating two $20 dollar gift cards and four $10 gift cards for our raffle for charity! Wow!

While taking a trip around the lake, Rattlesnake Guy and I stopped in at The Old Country Store in Moultonborough. As I was making my purchase I inquired if the lady handling the sale was the owner and she said yes. I explained about our annual gathering and this year’s raffle to benefit the Salvation Army Food Pantry in Laconia. She immediately got out her gift certificate book and wrote one out for us for $25. What a great store and museum! A must do if you are in the area. They have some very unique gifts, penny candy, books, maple products and kitchen gadgets that you cannot find elsewhere.

This is what we have for donations so far:

Talking Excellent! Thank You!

Thanks Darcy! You can either drop them off the day of, or someone could pick them up. There has got to be someone coming from your neck of the woods. Meredith Lady works at Weirs Beach, maybe it can be left with her?

Any possibility that you might be able to join us for the fest?

Thanks again!

Default Mega raffle

This raffle is taking on proportions of a MEGA RAFFLE, due to the spectacular generosity of not only forum members but most significantly by the lakes region businesses! It has the potential to be one of the highest grossing fund raisers ever. RG and others have already put alot of time into this FF but is it possible to start taking bids on-line through a Paypal or other CC method for some of these wonderful donations? I hope we have a record turnout for the Forum but for those that can't make it I'm sure they would like to try their luck at some of these prizes. In past years we have taken bids as FF time approaches. Can we start now?

Pineedles, while your idea certainly has merit, it's important to realize how difficult that would be to carry out. ForumFest has always been pulled together by a (very!) small group of people each year, and this year Rattlesnake Gal has graciously offered to lead the charge. In my opinion, setting up a Paypal account and/or accepting credit card charges to buy advance raffle tickets really aren't practical alternatives for an event like this that is handled strictly by a small group of volunteers. I wish it were otherwise, but I really don't think those are viable options.

Default Don

I wasn't trying to make extra work for those folks who selflessly devote alot of time to make this annual event a success, including you as I understand. Our Webmaster has a paypal account, but with all he has to do it may be unfair to ask him to do it as well. I just want this event to be the best we ever have had. I will be up on August 16th and would be more than willing to help out in any way I can. I'll start with a $50.00 "Sikskr gift cerificate". Or as he said, cash. RG, where do I send it?

Hi Pineneedles - Yes I completely understand. I probably should have added that one of the early decisions RG had to make this year was whether or not to accept "mail order" raffle ticket purchases from folks who wouldn't be able to attend FF. After discussing it quite a bit with several other members, she decided that selling raffle tickets ahead of time could present some real problems. (Pepper tried it several years ago and ran into difficulties.) Also, if someone not in attendance wins a raffle item, someone (RG in this case) would have to then make arrangements to get the item to them, which would likely involve logistics, shipping costs, etc. Not to belabor the point, but I just wanted everyone to know that the advance ticket sale option was considered, but RG decided (with the consensus of the others she discussed it with) that it was just too much of an administrative burden.

BTW, thanks for your generous gift certificate donation toward the raffle!

Well RG, this is a very impressive list of raffle items for sure. I wanted to throw several items into the mix from the POSTCARD WORKSHOP including this item below
It depicts three scenes from the old Lakeshore Railroad including;
1.- A reproduced postcard of Alton Bay Station
2.- A reproduced postcard showing a train rushing through Glendale
and
3.- A photo I took of the West Alton Station

Question: I guess I may have missed this....who is the beneficiary of the raffle?

Thumbs up Fanstastic Quilt Lady!!!!!

Quilt Lady, that is one amazing quilt!!! I've been thinking that I shouldn't put any of my tickets in for your grand prize, but now I'm not sure. I brought home my other quilt and this "Bear Paw" would look amazing at the camp.

Thank you very much McDude for your historic photograph donations from your Postcard Workshop!

A great big thank you to the Abrevaya family for their generous donation! I look forward to meeting you and your family.

Very nice pictures Sunset Bob! You always come through for our causes - thank you!

Sincerely,

RG

Talking Another Great Donation for the Raffle!

Today we stopped in to Gator Signs to purchase vinyl lettering for our boat. Mark remembered that I was looking for raffle donations and we left with a very generous $50 gift certificate. Thank you Gator Signs!

Gator signs not only does signs and vinyl lettering. They also sell clothing, which can be custom embroidered. They carry other cool boat related gift items such as port hole mirrors, map lamp shades, tote bags and the like. They also handle boat registrations, hunting and fishing licenses. Plus they are darn nice people - just the kind of Lakes Region business we should support.

I have an item that I authored. It's a text outta "Miami CSI".

While it's an extremely detailed study of an extremely narrow interest to the general public, I sell it for $60 per text.

At a previous raffle, the winner asked later if he could sell it for charity—which I OK'd. He put it on eBay and got $161!

It's a little late to mail it...and we're almost neighbors...so...

There are, but no Smilies appear in the book.

I had the new "Word 97" in that laptop, which had SUPER features. Including the ability to insert long phrases automatically: For example, I'd hate to keep typing this same phrase (which had to be used over and over).

Quote:
"...as manufactured in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and The Peoples Republic of China..."
That Word-97 software "remembered" many such phrases, and made writing almost fun.

My book, The Matrix, was published two years before the movie came out with the same name. Before the movie totally changed the word, "a matrix" was just "a chart". There is also the occasional reference to "Star Trek" in this otherwise very serious laboratory book.

My employer thought so much of it that he paid to publish the first 600 copies, which were sent, cost-free, to laboratories around the world. The subject matter is as dry as powder, however, and is not for everybody.

(But the winner will be able to figure out the link to "Miami CSI").

(Not too many bold and Italics in the book, but it's just too much fun on this Forum. ('Cuz it can easily be done from the keyboard using "Ctrl+B", "Ctrl+U" or "Ctrl+I").

Such additions tend to slow the reader however, and when on the Internet—combined with my remote punmanship style—sometimes has me wondering, "What was I thinking when I typed that?"

Sometimes I manage to figure it out, and blame those lapses on caffeine.

Smile Raffle donation from the Ross's

My friend Maureen and her husband Steve will be unable to be join us at the Forum Fest this year. They did want to donate to the raffle and left several lottery tickets with Mo, the manager at our vacation place (another Maureen) to give to me for transport to the Fest. So, add Lottery Tickets from the Ross's to the list. Since my friend is a very lucky lady I would guess that there is a big winner in that group of lotto tickets .

I look forward to seeing you all at the Forum Fest.

Default Recycled Raffle Item

Back a few Forum Fest ago, the one at LSR in Gilford I had won a super raffle item, it was a DVD produced by Forum member "Carguy". It is a dvd of some home movies made by a vacationing family(s) on Lake Winnipesaukee in 1929!
It has brought many smiles to the faces of friends and family, but I want to share this great item with other forum members or their guest, so I will be recycling this item and will donate it to the forum raffle. Good Luck!
