Default Welch power out

We had very strong SW blow, many trees down. Nearest neighbor to north has one across deck, next to the north lost flag pole.

Default South side?

Thanks for this info. Any idea if the south loop has power?

Please post when power is restored, or other changes. We trust PSNH has been notified and is on the way.

Welch was hit hard! Trees down everywhere. Power will be out for a long time. My wires were pulled right out of the house by a large tree that fell. Luckily it missed the house. My neighbors wasn't so lucky as his house was hit by a large tree that fell.

I hope you guys who haven't been out yet have no damage.

Dan

Very sorry to hear of the damage there on Welch Island, Dan. Hope you, Slickcraft and other neighbors are OK. Here in West Alton we just got torrential rain and lots of lightning, but no heavy wind gusts.

A large tree took out power and phone just north of the pole that is common to north/south. That is prior to the separate north and south branch fuses so my guess is that south may be out as well.

We observed two lines to camps down, ishoot208's and one south of us, maybe #59.

We had just beat the storm over to Welch, returning from a trip to NC. The intense wind was not right away but it was by far the strongest we have ever seen. A large tree fell about 30' behind the camp and we did not even hear it fall. My wife did feel the ground shake.

Default Wind Speed?

Does anyone know the wind speed of that blow? We were caught in that storm in our sail boat. We were up at Fays in the a.m. having some rigging work done and stopped by Rattlesnake to see family on the way back to Wolfeboro. The storm hit us just outside Wolfeboro Bay and we had to make an emergency stop at Goodhue and Hawkins. Never seen anything like it. Moored boats were actually keeling over in the wind. Rain felt like needles on skin. Glad we lived to tell the tale.

Default Always keep an eye to the sky....

Yesterday's severe weather was well forecast, with numerous outlets including the media, facebook, and twitter warning of the likelihood of severe weather all day long. Someone was just saying to me the other day that we hadn't had any thunderstorms yet....well now we have. The summer is officially here! Be safe out there, Cate, especially with that giant lightning rod right in the middle of your sailboat.

Pic of someone's umbrella going for a ride during the storms here on Sebago yesterday.

Default Gilford

The power was out in a large portion Gilford in the Dockham Shore Road area from about Silver Sands Marina to the Laconia Airport. The outage lasted from 4 PM until about 4 AM. There were multiple problems including wires down with tree limbs falling on them and there was a power pole on 11B that broke in half during the storm.

PSNH was there right away but replacing a pole wth all of the associated parties involved (cable, fairpoint, PSNH) is a time consuming job.

Cate - can't help you with the wind speed as we're pretty protected here, but I think I may have spotted you shortly before the storm hit. I saw a sailboat between Rattlesnake and Sleepers/Treasure Islands headed toward Wolfeboro maybe 20 - 30 minutes before the storm came. Was that you? Glad you made it back OK.

Default It's back

Just had an email from a family member who arrived a few minutes ago and said the power came back on around 6:10 pm. So that's the south loop. Can't say anything for the north side yet.

Thanks, we may go back over tomorrow. PSNH had a real mess to clean up, got a call from their automated system about 5 min ago.

Is the DSL back on? The phone cable had been severed by the tree that took the power out down near the island entry point. That is a lot of twisted pair to splice.

Is the power still out? I think I hear a generator running. Last nights storm was no where near as bad as the night before.

Default Strong winds predicted for tomorrow

Was just listening to Nat'l weather and they are predicting a very stiff wind tomorrow in fact they were saying could be up to 4 foot rollers out on the lake so be careful if you venture out. Not the kind of weather to be having with so many here on vacation that have marginal boating skills. Bet MP will be busy! For you folks on Welch if anything got stressed in the thunderstorms the wind tomorrow may be enough to take more trees/limbs down.

If anyone needs any help let me know I have my small chain saw, gas, and bar oil here at the camp and can help cut up some stuff, will be here through Sunday. Good enough for cutting branches and mid sized trees. PM me if you'd like. If you got any big stuff you need help with I will be here again the week of the 14th and can bring my big saw that is good enough to take on pretty much anything.

**Legal Disclaimer** Just be aware I am NOT a professional tree guy, but good with a saw ;-) This also isn't a solicitation for work, just offering free neighborly help if needed!

Yes it is a mess. I reported this via the Fairpoint web site on 7/4 and on 7/5 talked directly to line repair. I'll call again today. I reached line repair by calling 866-984-1611 option #4.

I did call again this morning, the repair is scheduled for tomorrow, 7/9. That would be one full week after the damage.

Fairpoint is not well known for speedy repairs. I had an issue at my home and was told that it would be 10 days due to storm damage etc. When I called back after 11 days and still no service, I was told that due to the amount of lines down in my area it would be at least another 2 weeks. I live 300 wire feet from the hub in Concord, and I can hit the building with a rock from my driveway. After informing them of how close I am amazingly there was a tech there in about 15 minutes. Keep pressure on them, they are trying hard to repair their tarnished image. I do understand that some areas did get hit hard from the storm, but a week is a long stretch. Also report the amount of down time to the puc.

Default Long Wait for Fairpoint

I called Fairpoint on July 1st to order a phone and internet service for a house we just bought on Rattlesnake. They were supposed to turn it on today. I just got a call and now they are projecting the 16th. I guess the rumors about Fairpoint are true??

Default Dsl

We probably can't do much about PSNH, except go back to propane, like we (all islands) had before 1963. However, there might be an opportunity to get enough to sign on for broadband cable. In 1962, I think the minimum number was 30 for electricity, and the original 30 who deposited $150.00 each, got a rebate when more signed on.

I have Direct TV and DSL, but the product is so inferior to Comcast that I have not used either in 2014, although I pay the fees.

Who's interested?

We would have an interest but just internet for six months a year.

Anyone know if the Welch power is back on?

Fairpoint is working on the phone cables. New 26 pair cable has been strung to the first north and south poles from the N/S common pole. Still need cable strung from shore entry pole to the N/S common pole. Did not see the crew but tools are still there. Must have gone for more cable, that is heavy stuff. They may or may not finish today, after last cable is run will have splice lots of twisted pair at 4 pole locations.

I was incorrect, my internet is NOT up and running. My computer was connecting to my jet pack which I thought was off!

Still waiting on Welch!
