Need swim platform?
I'll be installing a swim platform on my center console.
This will be a half platform, installed beside my outboard. Looking for source to purchase one? I was hoping to pick-up a used platform so headed down to M&M salvage in Meredith, however, they only had a few and in poor condition. Have also searched Craigslist without success ! Any suggestions ? |

Directly across from the Town of Meredith transfer station, there's a used marine parts and equipment biz that does big business with out-drives, and other expensive recycled boat items. They have lots of old boats sitting in their yard, and could have a swim platform. Cannot recall their name, but they most likely have a website?

Swim platform styles
OK, been looking at swim platforms for my center console.
This would be a new not replacement. Obviously with an outboard my options limited for space. Have narrowed down the purchase to a 3 or 4 step ladder with a fiberglass platform. Handrails: Some come with 2 handrails, some come with 1 ? Support Bracket underneath platform: Anywhere from none, 1, 2 Thoughts about handrails and support brackets? Not over thinking this, but only doing one time Thanks ! |

Absolutely 2 handrails.....awkward with only one.
No teak....just another maintenance headache 4 steps better than three.....three steps better than two. As you get older, you will appreciate the four steps. Support brackets...depends. If only one handrail, absolutely need two brackets. |

Swim Platform
If by hand rails you mean the side rails of the ladder by all means get a 2 rail ladder unless you will be boarding with swim fins. The side rails will prevent the users feet from slipping of as the boat rocks. The wider separation of the mounting points of a 2 rail ladder will provide for a much stronger installation.
You may find some useful information under "Ladder Installation" in the boating section of this forum. Consider hand rails above the platform to aid in the transition from the ladder to the platform, which might be what you were asking about in the first place. Sorry if I misunderstood your concerns. |
