We have a 100+ year old island lake house, with a likely 100+ year old fireplace/chimney that is sorely in need of attention. Ideally, we would love to be able to safely use the fireplace. Looking for recommendation for a mason who could help us - any islanders been through this before and did not remove the chimney???
Thank you! |

Huston family members.
2nd and 3rd generation. The Huston masons do not do any advertising. All/most work full time on masonry work. just by word of mouth. One 3rd generation does excellent carpentry. Any hardware store or any lumber yard would have their phone numbers. Gilbert Block in Laconia/Belmont would also have phone numbers. |

Ditto on the Hustons for masonry work. Bob Huston did work on our house and friends have used Randy Huston. Don’t know if they do island work.

I've been friends with Bob since pre school. I just sent him this thread but know they are all pretty booked up and Randy is mostly retired.

to those who like to keep the classic lake houses! My family had a lake house that was originally a brakeman house on the Lake Shore Railroad. It was added on and made into a family cottage in 1892. The trust can no longer keep up with the taxes and had to sell. The new owner, a doctor from Methuen, tore the old structure down despite pleas from the town. Needless to say, the new Mcmansion violated wetland laws and zoning as well as angry neighbors.
