Long Island Beach Closed

Received an automated call this afternoon from the town of Moultonborough that the Long Island Beach was closed for swimming until further notice due to hi bacteria levels. First time I've heard of them closing this beach. Any thoughts?

Got the same message...wondering why. They say rain run off has a lot to do with it, but, has it rained like that to cause this? Inquiring minds want to know! I hope and pray it's not human pollution, and nature will take care of itself.

SAMPLES COLLECTED 7/2/2014 EXCEEDED THE STATE STANDARD FOR FECAL BACTERIA. THE ADVISORY REMAINS UNTIL BACTERIA COUNTS ARE BELOW THE STATE STANDARD. RESAMPLING 7/7/14, NEW RESULTS 7/8/2014.

Too bad cause I love this beach!

Could the fecal be from geese? (As discussed in another thread). Saw about 20 of them swimming in the Long Island channel the other day

Could be from that i ran hopkinton state park ma beach for years and several times a year beach eould be closed for the same reason we had about 70 geese that were stationed at the park and always thought there was a link. They love grass water and people illegally feeding them. Hopefully it is not related to a malfunctioning septic system.

People will be coming around to my thinking on geese as more and more of these situations occur.

That is EXACTLY what I thought when I read the first post-GEESE!? And since you say there have been geese around there I bet you they are the problem! Something is going to have to be done about them!!!

Fricken Fraken Geese..... are certainly part of the problem... But I would also be suspicious of a failed septic system, in the area....
