There are several threads about this. I have attempted to post a link to a couple.

I have used Corey Boucher, Blue Moon Builders, in Gilford. He did everything right. Showed up as scheduled, excellent job, and cleaned up when his crew was done. He was less than 1/2 the price of other estimates I received.

i understand the need to get estimates but since ive been in this business good contractors are within 5-10% of each other when the dust settles. please note "good contractors" plus none of us are in competition most of us are out 6-12 months. stay with reputation someone with good reviews and NEVER TAKE THE LOWEST PRICE. reality check, folks that take the lowest price thats were horror stories begin. good luck

Not sure I buy the response.
You do have to be careful with the lowest price, however , when properly vetted there is nothing wrong with the low price, properly vetted !

Good contractors are within 5 to 10 % of each other is totally off base. I do a LOT of property renovations and contractors are all over the place on pricing .

Get at least 3 prices on a major job

You don't have to "buy" the response I'm simply trying to help out the general public with the estimate process. Getting estimate has become a complex game it's human nature to seek out the lowest price however I'm simply trying to point out that not always the best option or choice. I have no financial gain in this web site I'm simply trying to help the consumer. Look for good reputations, reviews and word of mouth. My comment about the 5-10 percent was driven from the fact we all pretty much pay the same price for a 2x4. And labor can run 40-50 an hour. Transparency that's the world we live in. Good luck folks summer is coming i hope

What are your thoughts on the origin of this post. He says waterfront home owners are quoted higher.

My siblings and I just used Rooftop Construction out of Laconia last week to strip and shingle the roof on our sister in laws house. Small job with asphalt shingles. They showed up when they were supposed to, did the job and left the place clean when finished. Not a high end job but we`re very pleased with the job they did.

Default Sow

Competent contractors will include a statement of work (SOW) and bill of materials (BOM) with their estimates. This will determine the value of their work. So the cheaper estimate may not always be the best value.

Default Only does Roofing

I had roof redone in 17. Choose Ted Gabois
1. He showed for appointment when stated.
2. Priced the job fairly with good advice.
3. He only does roofing.
4. Showed for the work when stated, finished when stated and left the area clean.

Number one choice for me

Default Recommend Roofer

Jasmor did my lakefront roof in Moultonboro near Center Harbor. They did a great job and cost was comparable to other contractors. Ask for Russell.
