El Centenario

Cristen and I stopped for dinner at El Centenario in Wolfeboro for some Mexican and I must say it was fantastic.

The chef/ owner (I believe) made guacomole right at the table. I am not a fan but Cristen said that was great too. The salsa was awesome.

So if you are looking for something a little different, check out this gem!

If you like authentic mexican....give this place a shot. The food was super good. I'm in Meredith, but this place is worth the ride to Wolfeboro!

Shhh. Don't tell anyone, Centenario is fabulous. We have won blue ribbons for our salsa, rub, hotsauce, etc., in BBQ cookoff environments. We were talking with the owner of Centenario one day discussing the most important element of making salsa. I said Cilantro-as much as you can find. He said, cook it. I was a little taken aback with that comment, because I think everyone thinks of salsa as "fresh". But, I tried doing what he said, and it really does make a difference, it improves it somehow. Their family owns about 7 or 8 Mexican restaurants up/down the Eastern seaboard, according to the owner, so they've got lots of experience. The place is great.

We drove over from West Alton last evening and it was well worth the drive. Interesting menu with lots of choices beyond what us locals normally think of as Mexican and the food was great. We each tried something "different" and were rewarded with some delicious "new to us" flavors.

(I love Mexican food and have had the real - v. homemade thing... right down to the tortillas... You've got me interested now...)

The address I found online was 14 Union St in Wolfeboro. I believe it is the side street next to town hall. We were probably there about three or four times this year and were always happy with the food and drinks just like the other posters. We always start with the guacamole they make at your table - it is great.

Been there several times and I agree, the food is very good - love the table side guacamole. Service, however is very spotty - tolerable but they seem to usually forget something. Nice short walk from the town docks.

Was there mid September...the food was great as was the service. We were the only people there for lunch which surprised us seeing how good everything was. Perhaps part of it is the location though only a bit off the beaten path, also people tend to want to see the lake. There was a whole bus load of people that got off the bus and probably did head to the waterfront. Hope this restaurant does well!

Yes! Great find. We took our oldest son there for his birthday in August, and everything was great. I wish there were more people in there, as I want to see it thrive & remain. It's up near the old town hall. Great food, great service.

We had lunch there today, very good. You can order from the full dinner menu or from about ten lunch special dishes at about $10 each. We chose from the lunch menu but the dishes that arrived would have also served as very good dinners.

We also tried the guacamole appetizer off the dinner menu. It is made fresh at your table spiced to you liking. Yum!

My wife and I learned many years ago,If you want good service eat at the Bar.
Do the have a bar? For my taste there is no better Mex food than Tortilla Flats.
Can anybody give me a comparison ? I would give my right propeller blade for good Mex food accessible by boat. But they gotta have a Lounge.

Small casual bar on right as you walk in. As noted in a review found in the link in post #8, this is a small family run operation. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Wolfeboro public docks.

They do have a nice bar and I've eaten there. Great service and food. Cut across Cate Park from the town docks, head up the hill, and go down Union St. about 50 feet.

It's awesome. We love sitting at the bar, but not sure it's a "lounge" in the way that a previous poster mentioned.

Family-owned and run; great food, great service. And it's accessible by boat!! What's not to love?

Agreed- there are probably 8-10 seats at the bar. Great place!

Juss beyahnd thet yer gonna come to a small brook - thar'll prolly be a turtle on 'is favourite rock sunnin' himself. Used to be a tanyard there way back where'd they'd wash the hides and it ahll stahnk to high heavuns.

Well once yer at the fowa connahs, yer gone take the old stage road that used to be the main route to Cahn-kid afore the state road came in. Now listen good now, 'cause here's where things staht to get a little bet complexified if you're ain't from 'round these pahhts.

After all the direction talk (and it was entertaining) I gotta point out that Overlake97 was asking where Tortilla Flats is. Overlake, if you're still out there, I know of one in Merrimack, NH. There may be others?
