Default Meredith Marina...Can this be???

Weren't they very instrumental in getting the "No Wake" zone extended in Meredith Bay...Complaining that the large wakes were dangerous and disruptive to their business?

I saw a sign on the side of Rt. 3 for this event... WOW!

Default Just sent this to them...

Dear Meredith marina Management...

I believe you were involved in getting the "No Wake" zone in Meredith Bay extended due to the dangerous condition wakes make and how disruptive it was to you business...And now?

You are sponsoring a "Wake Fest"

Incredible bad taste...

Careful what you wish for... Pretty soon the whole lake will be a NWZ, and people will STILL find something to bitch about. Never ends... I'm beginning to wonder if there's any part of life "you people" enjoy???

What’s the problem? They’re trying to sell wake boats.
Obviously, they won’t be “wake boating” in the NWZ so...

Doesn't matter. The chronic complainer's will still bitch, whine, and moan even if they're "wake boating" in the Broads! You just can't please some "people" no matter what...

Default Bit of hypocrisy...

Maybe some can't see it.

Don't wake board in my back yard because it's dangerous. We'll come to your's however...

They affected a lot of people enlarging that no wake zone. So what is it by their...THEIR ...opinion? Dangerous or not?

You don't know my opinion on this...

I'm just pointing out what I think is some major hypocrisy on the part of this Marina.

The problem is the hypocrisy. It's one thing to to argue for or against wakes, or anything else for that matter. But to argue against wakes, and then promote them is just vile

If the Meredith Bay nwz wasn't enlarged to include the Meredith Marina, then this Winni wake board event could have been held at the marina.

It was held last year for the first time at the Center Harbor Inn, and they must like that spot ..... who knows?

It's only a wave of incoming water ..... what the heck ..... lakes have water ..... water has waves ..... waves have been happening for a long time?

Apples and oranges. They pushed for a larger NWZ because of dangers to people on the docks because of the yahoos that wait until they are past the bouys before they slowed down. I was valeting out of there that summer and had to try to restrain my boat from crashing into the docks while getting fuel more than once. In addition, someone was injured because of the wake problem.
The “powers that be” granted the larger NWZ. End of problem.
They sold wake boats then and sell wake boats now. This is an event that might promote sales for them and others on the lake that sell these boats. I, for one don’t care for wake boats but I have not seen anyone operating one that affected me or my activities.
They did not “argue against wakes” they argued for safety at their docks.

Sorry if it's a danger then you shouldn't promote it. Maybe it's time to buy a large cruiser and just plow through past them

Get on board with the times or get left behind. Just like most of you older folks grew up waterskiing today’s kids will grow up wakesurfing instead. Surprisingly I meet more people 40-65 years old who want to still do water sports but are too frail be to falling at 25-40mph so they’ve moved to wakesurfing.

We travel in different social circles!

Not "surprisingly", I meet a lot of people who are tired of the big wakes and obnoxiously loud stereos with the speakers mounted high on the boat. When the clowns with these boats decide that their next two or three hours of wakesurfing fun will be in front of your house, you have to go inside, close the windows, and watch your boat bounce off of the dock as the large wakes wash up on your lawn.

Because of the speaker mounting on these boats the sound travels for miles and the operators seem oblivious to the hundreds of people they are disturbing when they go out to play. Loud music is not a problem on most boats because the speakers are mounted for the people ON THE BOAT to hear the music, and don't disturb everyone else trying to enjoy the lake.

It's amazing how far sound travels over open water. Most people that only have boats out on the lake and don't own waterfront property don't realize this and some just don't care.
Of course I'm going to hear it from people how, "you don't own the water" but what happened to respect for others?

I hoped an attachment of a new ¼-inch stainless steel bracket would keep a Jet-Ski from hitting the dock, but it wasn't meant to be.

Default Legislation?

HOUSE BILL 137
AN ACT establishing a commission to examine the effects of wake boats in the state of New Hampshire.
SPONSORS: Rep. Suzanne Smith, Graf. 8; Rep. Wolf, Merr. 5; Rep. Tanner, Sull. 9; Sen. Fuller Clark, Dist 21
The Commission is supposed to report by June 30, 2020. It would probably make sense to contact one of the sponsors if you are concerned about wakes, or attend commission meetings.

Exactly. This is the root of many issues on the lake.
The "this is my happy happy freedom fun time on the lake" crowd only want their fun & freedom regardless of impact on others.

It's the root of many issues everywhere. It exploded with the invention of Twitter.

Yes! Made many people happy too! Now people can slowly motor in and out of the Meredith docks and ENJOY THE LAKE, the sights and sounds of a beautiful recreational area without worrying about beating another boater to the docks!
This still happens however as many do not obey the NWZ law.

This is an issue that can be resolved with education not legislation. See http://www.wsia.net/wake-responsibly/ for more info and to spread the word so this great sport, these great boats, great local boat dealerships, NH jobs and many many boating enthusiasts are not stomped on by your state government.

Noise from the engines to not bother me at all and I expect it and actually enjoy it even from my home however I do not want to hear others music blasting. JMO

On the wake boat issue I do see significant conflict in sponsoring a wake boat event. What’s going for the goose is good for the gander

Maybe you should just go straight up to a 3/4" bracket. No sense wasting your time with 3/8, 1/2, 9/16, or 5/8, - 3/4 should do it!!

I have to admit that I can't stand being forced to listen to someone else's music either. Even on the street in a vehicle, like at a gas station or something. Especially if the music being played really sucks, like the band "Yes", or even worse, "Rap" music. You can't spell the word "CRAP" without "RAP".

I used to be when I was drinking, but I haven't drank for well over 30yrs. Now I'm just high on life. Maybe we should get together some time. I'm sure we could have a BLAST...!!!! I'm a classic rock and roller kind of guy. It motivates the hell out of me, makes me the "life" of the party...!!! PM me, and we'll set something up. I like just about anything except rap, and the band "Yes". Can't take them at all. I would rather crawl through broken glass naked, than listen to Yes, or rap crap. I like Glen Campbell too, not familiar with Sam Cooke. I think we have more in common than you would care to admit. We can talk politics while jammin out to some (Uncle) Ted Nugent!!! Dog, dog, dog eat dog... LOL

I'm gonna throw up thinking about that song, and the song "Roundabout", (and Cheap Trick's "Surrender"). Over rated. Best song with the word "surrender" in it is Triumph's "Never Surrender". Very inspirational / motivational. A lot of Triumph songs have a positive message, which is rare. Which is what makes them great IMHO. One of my all time favorite Triumph songs is "Ordinary man". Awesome song. Check it out...

Default Glen Campbell

I remember Glen Campbell. Part of the Kingston Trio, then a Beach Boy. Then a summer replacement for the Smothers Brothers. Always a substitute. Didn't he have a summer route in the Poconos?

Ummm...with such hits as, "Rhinestone Cowboy," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," and "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife," Campbell was NEVER a substitute (only a good friend)!

Default "Good Times Hour"...

I've kept a 7-inch reel (and AKAI recorder) of tape of the "Good Times Hour", recorded from TV.

"Sing-a-long" notables included Barbra Streisand, Anne Murray, Johnny Cash, Petula Clark, Sonny and Cher, and Linda Ronstadt.

All four seasons are available free from Amazon Prime:

(The page lists plenty of familiar names, lost to the past).

Meredith Marina is a DUMP! They should be more concerned with upgrading their business and visual appearance so folks who drive by their facility on Rte.3 have to view...

Most other marina's keep their properties in great shape.
- Lakeport Landing
- Irwin's
- Winni Marine (old Channel)
- Thurston's
- Silver Sands
- Goodhue's (Wolfboro)
- Shep Brown's

To pretend or genuinely not understand the difference between wanting the marina included within the no wake zone and that same company putting on a great local event promoting the boats they sell and a fantastic family activity is a level of obtuseness impressive even for this website. If they were petitioning to hold the event within the no wake zone you might have a case to make disparaging posts about the irony. Fortunately, you do not have a case.

It's attitudes like this that make great local events disappear (the list is long) or impossible to start. Events that bring families, customers & vendors together for a fantastic day on the water. It also would be a great event to educate people on proper wakeboat use and etiquette. So you perhaps would preventing the changes you actually seek by petitioning against this event.

Truly impressive.

The "REAL" problem (IMHO) is the "MAJORITY" always caving into the "minority" out of fear of "offending" someone... Political Correctness runamuck... Thousands are inconvenienced because of, (sometimes as little as), two, or three... Ridiculous!! Should never happen, in ANY walk of life.

AttentiontoDetail - I believe that there would be more empathy towards wakeboarding if greater effort was placed on educating wakeboat owners on proper wakeboat use and etiquette than on educating the general public.
