Default Center Harbor Diner

Drove by today and it was gone, looked like a concrete forms company was at work and the sign said they were closed for rebuild, these people don't fool around. I really like eating there, anybody know what's up???

Looking forward to the reopening. I love the food and the people there but the building was hurting for sure.

Good news.."closed for remodeling" is often a euphemism for " closed forever."

You're right but not this time, they have been talking this up all summer, that building was at the end if its useful life to say the least and far beyond a rehab. Suppose to be attempting a quick turn. Hope they pave that mess of a parking lot .

They are going at it pretty fast- Donny Lemien dug the foundation yesterday and I see East Coast Foundation setting forms. The Cahoons are waiting to start framing.

I will try to get a timeline

I would be more inclined to eat there, if it looked like a diner . Never met a diner I didn't like.

With the loss of Sam and Roise's, and Bay Gulls moving up the road.... And the fact that the Mug By the Bay, is going after a bit more posh crowd... A new facility could be just what the Diner needed.... especially if they keep the food and prices the same. I can't be the only boater, that isn't impressed with Mug by the Bay, and realizes that the walk up to Bay Gulls is just a bit to far to be practical, from the docks.

(Please not that I am not trying to be negative about Mug by the Bay, it is just not my kind of restaurant for breakfast, I much prefer a true short order Diner, the couple of times I have eaten there, the food has been fine)

It appears as thought they are rebuilding in the exact same footprint as the original.

The rafters are going on today. It will likely be weathertight in a week or less.

I wish I was a building designer that could have advised them about expanding the entry lobby. Too small, with the planned expanded square footage of the eating area. I hope they get a good payback for their efforts. They are an icon in the Center Harbor/Moultonborough area.

Jeff I agree. I think in most cases they stayed true to the original. I cant help thinking they are going to fight ice with the door where it is, but other than that it is looking great!

It kind of looks like a stretched out pre-fab trailer or something. They could of added a bit more style to the building if you ask me. Even though nobody asked me.

The operative word in the name is "Diner," .......... I think it looks great. Kudos to the owner for investing in their business!

I think their plan was to stay true to the original. They may have had to stay that way due to zoning or a substantial change would change setbacks?

You definitely got the picture! That is why many new structures looks like industrial buildings. Please see the plans for the replacement of the 'pink lady' next to the DD on Union Ave. in Laconia. Sickening!

There is an entrance on the left end of the building that looks as though it may become the main entrance. I think it will be nice when it is done....

The left side entrance will be a loading dock.

The diner opened today and it was nice to see around a dozen cars/pick-ups in the parking lot at 8:00 this morning.

(In contrast we ou saw one in the Mug's lot.)
