Default Spooky Brick Building in Woods in Alton

Between the Alton baseball/softball fields and the existing Alton Power Dam, in the woods, there is an abandoned brick structure with the windows and entry closed off by iron bars. Despite the padlock, it looks like people have been in there.

Does anyone know what this structure is/was?

Thanks.

Here is a couple of pics I took several years ago of the power turbine building. As I understand it, there was a pipe that ran from the dam to the building, into the turbine, and then exited the building in the river again. I also heard there were several of these electric stations on many small rivers throughout NH.

Thanks. I figured it served some water-driven function. Reminded me of some of the puzzles in the Myst-Riven game universe.

Geez how big/deep is that hole? Looks like an accident waiting to happen when someone falls in.
