Talking My Vacation Is Over!

My stay here on the shores of Winnipesaukee have sadly come to an end. I head back home today.

This year was a lot more relaxed than last. I didn’t do nearly as much (I think I did it all last year) and that’s fine with me. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I hiked Rattlesnake in Holderness with a dear friend, saw countless deer, and witnessed my first baby eagle (actually 3 of them on Blueberry Island).

I was smart(er) with my money this year so I was only able to dine out a few times. I went to Lydia’s Cafe for lunch (turkey curry bowl is delicious and healthy) and had me a couple of burritos from Burrito Me (good stuff!).

I also spent 4 days with my family at our place on Bear Island. We all got together to see my little sister and her new husband off. They’re moving to Colorado for a year and a half while he finishes out his Army service (thank you Marshall for protecting this amazing country of ours!). It was bittersweet. None of us wanted to see them go (especially my parents) but we know they have their entire lives in front of them. The good news is when they come back they’re buying a house in New Hampshire!

The weather was almost as amazing as last year (didn’t think it was possible!). It rained a few times but only for a short time and then the sun would poke it’s fiery head out and drench us all in it’s warmth.

I missed Forum Fest this year due to the “Going Away” party for my sister but I plan on being there next year. It was great to be able to put faces to the names (especially you FatLazyLess-you’re not what I thought you’d look like).

I want to give a special "shout out" to my host! I can't thank you enough for having me as your guest.

So you’ll hear from me again soon.

Thank you, my Winni.com friends, for being the people you are.

Sounds as if you had a great time!

Sadly, the summer IS winding down a bit - IslandPrincess (Sherrie) has to go back to teaching in just a little over a week, and the long weekends and occasional full weeks on the Island (Rattlesnake) will, for the most part, come to an end.

I had to be dragged, almost kicking and screaming, off the Island this past Tuesday.

But, on the bright side, there are still a good number of weekends left - weather permitting - before, dare I say it? - the docks have to be hauled out!!!

I'm glad you had a nice vacation with mostly good weather

Default headed that way Saturday

We arrive this Saturday for our two weeks at the lake. Waiting this long in the summer to get up there has been torture but everything happens for a reason, I guess.... I hope the weather holds out a while longer and we can get a few good boating days in. We have plenty of sun here in Phoenix so I don't mind the clouds, just don't want to deal with storms out on the lake.

So glad you had a wonderful vacation. Here's hoping the time flies for you until next summer!

There is plenty of good boating this year... Sometime you have to deal with clouds, but late in August most of the renters have taken off, and the boat traffic starts to slow down, until Labor day....

Default My 2 Weeks

Sounds like you had a great time Jay. I'll be starting my two weeks on Saturday. Can't wait...even though I have to work during the weekdays (working vacation).

I read recently that psychologists believe a large part of our vacation enjoyment comes from the planning process & anticipation. So...it's probably not too soon to start anticipating & planning for next year. It will be here before you know it.

Default Vacation!

Glad you had a nice time, jk. We'll be up there Saturday for 8 glorious days. Always get a lot of nice tips from this site, particularly about restaurants and other eateries. Want to spend some more time on the northern side of the Lake this year - Moultonborough over to Wolfeboro. My daughter got her driver's license about a month ago, so I would urge everyone to stay off the sidewalks! Best wishes!

Thumbs up

I feel really bad for you all that have to go home after a short stay but after visiting and vacationing here for the past 57 years we have made it home and do not need to worry when vacation is over as it is now always vacation at the lake. Like it was said in a previous thread the time will go by real fast and you all will be back again to have another wonderful time.

I have 38 years under my belt vacationing there.

With a little luck and a lot of hard work, I plan on building a log home on the lake within 5 years!!!

Then I too will be vacationing whenever I want for as long as I want!

I hope you reach this dream J. Sounds perfect. Of course I will be inland somewhere in Wolfeboro enjoying the four seasons of year-round living. (and paying lower taxes

That is super. It doesn't make one bit of difference where one spends it, on the lake in a field or woods as long as one is in this state they are in a good piece of God's heaven.
