Default Drowning person - not what you think...

That time of year again. I think anyone who boats, swims or spends time near the water should read and understand this. Reality is not like the movies.

I have actually, been there while taking a dip in Winni a couple years ago.
I was with 3 other people, one in the water with me but not very close and two in the boat. I had swum to an island to wade then upon swimming back to the boat reaching deep (could no longer stand up) water I started struggling for breath and doing exactly what you described. Couldn't yell for help and somehow made a last ditch effort and reached the boat by kicking like hell. Got a hand on the swim ladder and thought "holy crap, what just happened?
I never said a word to anyone and filed that episode in memory that I am not a spring chicken any more. I was totally out of breath but no one noticed a thing.
