Default Wind Squall On Saturday...

Anyone else get caught in that wind squall yesterday afternoon on the lake??

We had just left Alton Bay and were headed back to Welch when the wind and waves picked up like crazy! By the time we got to the south side of Sleepers island, the lake was brutal. Everyone at the West Alton sandbar were scrambling to head out but the storm surge happened so quick it was way too late for most. Luckily there was no lightning and only very light rain but the wind made up for it!! We made home safely and without incident and my crazy young college boy nephew and his girlfriend who were up visiting thought it was fun!! Ahh, to be young again!!

We were out in the broads yesterday when the wind picked-up. Our house is located way up in Green's Basin. We were out in our new Harris 25 foot tritoon pontoon boat. We didn't have any problems at all. I am glad I spent a few years deciding on what boat length, engine horsepower, number of pontoons, etc. would be best in the broads on a rough water day. We have a 150 hp engine on the boat. Today it is windy, but who cares! We are off to Pop's in Alton for lunch.

Kinda funny sitting in the yard in Alton Bay and hearing a half dozen or more boats full bore headed up the lake.. Knew something was coming and within minutes total down poor... I've been caught on the lake before in a bad storm, not a good time to say the least!

We watched the parade of boats racing through the no wake area in front of Irwins in Paugus bay to get into their "home base". We were fortunite to have heard the timing of the potential weather so planned to be back before anything occured. The rain was horizontal for a few minutes but it was over very quickly.

After that squall and rain ended, we had a great rainbow at sunset. Took this picture...

That's strange as we got just a few drops of rain on Welch island...

Arrow A Very Quick Video

I actually forgot that I had this ability. I wish that I had started sooner and on our dock. We only got a couple of drops where we are. Storms were north and south. Rainbow was nice. There was a dim second one too.

Time Lapse Storm

Wish I could embed the video. I cannot figure out how from my phone.

We are trading our 20 foot bennington pontoon for a 24 foot tritoon with a 150. We got soaked in the chop sunday morning about five times! Just about to call the dealer with the deposit when I read your post :-) it made it easier!

The Wind certain did come up quick... However I had been watching the Sky all day so I was not caught off guard... the kids however where a little upset as I started covering the boat and Jet ski... Just I finished covering things, the swells started coming across the bay... the kids got cold... the dog got scared... and I looked across the bay, and said... it raining over there, but we aren't going to get a drop.....

The bottom line is this lake can wip up quick... You always need to be checking the sky, looking for changes in the weather patterns....
