Default Winnipesaukee.com Forum Gathering?

Hey -- After all these years and posts on here, I wonder why we haven't staged a semi-official "gathering" somewhere during the summer...

Wouldn't it be cool to associate some faces to the names you've come to knwo through this forum? Personally, I'd like to meet (and thank) Don. And who wouldn't want to say "hey" to "The Eagle"???

Who's up for an impromptu gathering this summer? Just an idea. Naturally, I'd be up for a Wolfeboro-area schmooze-fest. Anyone else?

WinnDiver -- Alternatively, perhaps we could have an underwater summit -- I know that we could coax Senter Cove Guy and MinkIslander.

Who stands opposed????

I have thought about the same thing for some time now. We really should -- I would really like to meet some (all) of you!

Thumbs up Gathering

I think it would be a great idea. From my short time here on the forum there are some very nice and interesting people out there. Of course there are those of the opposite direction too.

This forum has helped me reconnect with the lake as well as with one person I knew as a teenager. So I vote for a gathering.

Default Let's rap...(and party)

I'll bring all my Rap CD's and my classic heavy metal from the 70's & 80's collection I just bought from TV Guide. I even think I still have that darn "Bad Boys, Bad Boys" disc!

Anyway, I hope Don can come. That devil looks like a classic closet rapper to me!

Let's party...

Smile First Annual Winni Forum Re-Union!

This is the neatest website in cyberspace. The folks on this forum are terrific- not to mention the great job the webmaster does!. I am all for a forum reunion and if we could make it a fundraiser, so much the better. I don't want to hear any excuses like "I can't make it!"-- because I will be comming from Florida!--Ah- love this forum, and love "God's country" that it addresses!

And I'll even finish hooking up the speakers to my new 500 watt Kenwood amp, bring along some decent rap CD's!

But seriously, I think that would be a great idea. Perhaps we could come up with a co-event to raise some funds for a worthy charity while we're at it.

Count me in....

Question

Only the truly uninformed would call NH state agencies "deep pockets". . . :

Realtors: The State of New Hampshire AG office and the Safety Department -- What's that about?
Madrasahs: I can only guess. The plaintiffs are going for all the deep pockets they can find. Is the Forum listed?

Default Great way to meet new people

Since I'm kind of new to the area, I've not been a forum user for a long time like some of you but think this is a great way to get to know more people. Can I bring my pet python? He's really cool and wouldn't be any trouble so long as we keep him out of the water.

Pythons, boats, PWCs, massive throngs of people...the Web-driven answer to Bike Week (without the arrests).

Wow -- this has the potential to evolve into Lakeapaloozah 2004.

We might have to rent out Brookwood Farm and invite the Allman Brothers to serve as official event crooners.

Know what would be cool? If someone had a big old island...and a microbrewery...and a connection with Los Lonely Boys...and...

Default Lost Lonely Boy

I know there is going to be one real Lost Lonely Boy who will be beside himself that day if we all show up. I don't have a boat or jet ski, but I do have about 15 to 20 good ole red neck family members I'd be happy to bring along on a rented party boat with one kick ass charcol grill that smokes like crazy - maybe the wind direction will be in my favor that day.

Thumbs up Sounds good to me, errr, "Mac"

I'll check with the boss and she if she's amenable but it sounds like a good idea. Let's start suggesting some 'can go dates' and some 'can't go dates' and arrive at a when. Then we can discuss the morality of pitching rap CDs into the lake ! Do we think Winter Hr be big enough ?

Default New name needed.

Sorry. Lakapolozza (or however you spell it) is already taken. That's the name for the annual Labor Day lake party at Merrymeeting. You can even buy hats and t-shirts with the name at the local marina.

I like the idea of a get-together though.

Wink Union...first....then reunion

Sounds like a great idea...perhaps difficult to do before Labor Day, maybe after...or.....anyone have any dates in mind? ( Will it be necessary to notify the authorities...in case any fights break out between loud vs. quiet, big vs. small, fast vs.slow, islander's vs. mainlander's, and more....) We've had so much fun with this Forum we can only hope for a love fest, couldn't we?? This could become an annual event surpassed in popularity only by Bike Week. Who Knows?

Default Dates please

OK,if this happens,I suggest every boat should have a sign on it with their forum names so we know who to yell,ah I mean say hello to and connect the name with a face.Mine is already the name on the boat(pwc) so you can already hurl insults my way.Great idea though.
Would a later date like a couple weeks after labor day be the best time for this?I believe the week after labor day is the big Greens Basin get together.
Let's have some input everybody.Where's the Eagle by the way? SS

Default Islanders vs Mainlanders?

Hey what did I miss here? Did you create a new war?
Islanders don't hate mainlanders..... unless.... why would a mainlander hate an islander? I know, it's because they're jealous that we get to swim home if our boat breaks down.

A get together sounds fun.

Grant,
Didn't you promise us all a Rock Bass fish fry?
A get together does sound great! It would be fun to meet everyone and put faces to the names. Is there a way to have some sort of a sign up for those interested in attending? It would be good to get an idea of how many so the location could be picked.

I think we already have the 'perfect' spot picked out for the rendezvous - a place just around Wolfboro neck area.

Bring your Donzi, bring your Fountain, bring your Formula, ....... heck bring the mother in law along... Looking forward to the event.

Default We can do better I think

...we want a name that will last and we can take pride in if this comes off. I humbly off these few suggestions to spark some thoughts ...

Winnipalooza (to go with what's been mentioned), WinniWhoopla, WinniWingding
Winni Forum Frolic, Winni Forum Fiesta
Winnipamboree, Winnipesboree, Winnipescapade

[new idea but a bit 'sweet'] Winni Forum Frendezvous

personally I'd think some take-off on an Indian name for meeting (Winnipespowwow, aarrrggg) or such would be appropriate but I can't put it together.

Perhaps we can set up some of these new forum poll thingees to see what people want. One thought that occurs to me is that we may have a few Forum regulars who aren't boaters. Perhaps we should consider a rendezvous at some town docks or land based place for them ? Or arrange for boat rides to the water event if that's do-able ? Maybe it's not an issue. Just trying to be as inclusive as possible...

Lightbulb Forum Gathering Names

"WinniGathering"

Simple and to the point.

It goes along with Grants original idea.

Default September 11'th reunion

With the posts about after Labor day, how about Saturday, the 11'th of September. Sort of a reunion to the flotilla that the members of the forum pulled together three years ago following the famous 9/11. Winter Harbor sounds great for a location. How many boats can fit in there?

What would it cost to rent the Mount for a Saturday afternoon or night?????

and Mcdude, a neighbor from the bottom of the "hill" won't let you not get to the party if it is in individual boats. If you come down off that mountain, take your first left, and then look for a bunch of wood in the driveway, that's me.

Sounds good whereever we can get together.

Default Rafting with Canoes and Kayaks?

HEY! I got lots of offers for rides to an event that may or may not even take place. Thanks RG, IG and Upthesaukee! Question: ..if all of us kayakers and canoers show up.....do the rafting rules apply to us? I checked the events calendar and there do not seem to be any major events on the 11th, however, when you link to the winni.com event calendar you are redirected to the Lakes Region calendar. What happened to the winni.com calendar on which RG took such efforts to add events?

Default Rules and Regs

I think September would probably be the time for this event but isn't the annual Badgers Island rafting event that day?Actually, that's ok if it is cuz I don't like hanging there that long anyway.Plus 150 boats rafting is a bit much.
Next question would be are all forms of transportation welcome or will the "offshores","cruisers",and PWC's be asked to stay away?Only craft up to say,20 ft?Before I get slammed, I'm saying this with tongue in cheek people! Can I bring fertilizer for the lawn on the back of my boat? Are people from Massachusetts allowed to come? Will we allowed to race at high speed between all the boats rafting filled with people who will probably be drinking lots of beer and littering in the lake?
So sorry,I couldn't resist. We must laugh at ourselves once in a while right?
Can't wait to see some of you prolific pundants! SS

Well, Senter Cove Guy and I will have a smaller gathering (say, two people) below the surface of the Lake next week.

Someone be sure to take & post some photos from the September gathering.

Default Before Labor Day

We should definately try to find a way to do something before Labor Day. It wouldn't be right if Grant couldn't attend, and I am sure that many people will find a post-summer date more difficult.

Having less time to plan of course means that the event may not be as elaborate, but it's more important that we meet and have fun- even if the setting isn't as nice, it's the company that matters!

I'm happy to help if I can.

Arrow Let's gather some information

Let's try to sort out what's do-able. Perhaps we could post our preferences/needs for date, time, place and special concerns and then we can figure out what works best.

For me it's any weekend date before the end of Oct, no preference for land or lake (I have a boat and can host 2 other people from Alton Bay area if needed). I guess I'm easy

ps - I opine that it's better for all to gather for a few beers at a pub than have an elaborate affair that some can't attend. There's always next year to to make something big happen. (Grant - I'd say Garwoods but this weekend "Mee" has me going to a going-away party. Perhaps the following Fri or Sat ? a meeting of the ex-com post fatto planing comittee ?? )

pps - Fat Jack - thinking about the PJ party. I'd bet some of the forum females are fabulous in nightware but I hear the FLL might attend. Furthermore, and I say this is a rumor I'm starting, I hear that he sleeps "au natureil". Not sure I'm ready for that

Mmmmmmmm...beer...the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast.

I must take this opportunity to plug the fine Franconia Notch ale I had with dinner at Garwood's in May. I hope I can find it in bottles when I get back up there on Friday.

This sounds like a great idea. I look forward to meeting the masters of the keyboards and outstanding photographers. I will likely be BOATLESS in September. If this is on shore, I can make it, if not, I will either borrow, rent or hitch a ride.

Don't be disappointed, a bass boat would only be a target for those big sparkly off shore rigs anyway.

Thumbs up Beverages on tap?

Hmmmmm,

Very tantalizing ....I usually pull a double shift on Fridays, but I could be game for a pint or two on a Saturday afternoon, early evening timeframe in that general vicinity (easy for me to slide over from Ossipee).

Like Grant, I too enjoy a handcrafted local ale...who knows, it could help me grow back some of my tail feathers.

Twist my arm some more!

I think it's a great idea to have a few bass boats there. If you are out of a ride in September, let me know and you can hitch a ride with me. It's about time you got back in a Ranger anyways!!!!!

Well finding a place to gather sounds like the big question so who's really good friends with the NHIS owner?

His place would be a great spot!

To be a bit more serious though seems to me that the only good place to hold something like this would be Ames Farm, lots of room for a big crowd and accessible for those with no boat.

Just a thought anyways.

Now, I'm new here, but it seems like you guys fight a lot, much more than even on forums who's purpose is to debate. Do you think that it's a good idea for everyone to be in the same place at once?

Either way, I wouldn't hold the function anywhere where people need to bring their powerboats, or motorcycles.

Dana,
That sounds tempting. Would it be OK to wear my Team Skeeter Shirt & Hat or would it cause that sparkly new Ranger to malfunction?

By the way, hows the fishing?

I will see you at the Camp Carefree Kids Derby and we can talk about it.

Regards,

John,
I had a feeling the "malfunction" thing would surface before this was through
But you're still welcome to wear your Team Skeeter shirt - not a problem!!

See you at Camp Carefree on the 4th

Default Compendium so far

Here what I've gathered re: the Gathering. It's no doubt fraught with errors so correct me where you see them. Now if only I could get the Excel file attached to display.

Thumbs up Way to Go Mee-n-Mac

Excellent excellent job Mee-n-mac! Thank you very much for putting this together.

Should I assume your are now the 'gate keeper' of this upcoming sanctioned forum gathering event schedule?

If yes, am wondering what your preferences are on us communicating to you the answers to the '?' on the excel sheet.

Again thanks so much.

Default Suggestion

Thanks, Mee-n-Mac, for putting together that Excel file.

What do the rest of you think about perhaps meeting at Cate Park in Wolfeboro? It's right next to the Town Docks, so those who prefer to come by boat could (hopefully!) tie up at the docks, and those who prefer to drive could park and walk over to the park. I don't know if we'd need permission from the Town or not, but that spot would seem to be pretty good to me. What do others think?

Gate keeper, naaah. I was thinking along the same lines of Grant, but he beat me to the punch, so I figured I'd help out this way.

As for corrections, just post them here and I'll try to pick them up once a day and repost the list the next.

I'm not sure if anyone can display the Excel file or whether you need to have Excel on your PC. If it's the latter than perhaps someone can tell me a good way to display the contents in a form anyone can read. The TSV and CSV formats don't read too easily on the forum. If I could capture the screen as a bmp or jpeg perhaps ???

Sound good to me but then again I'm easy. Like you said, it allows boaters and non-boaters to gather. When the throng gets thirsty .... well I guess we'd have to invade Garwoods or the Upper Deck.

I would like to attend if held on weekend. I prefer water access and could provide transportaion to boat-less people from the Gilford area. Best would be a place where we could come and go as we please, just in case someone gets bored, or someone gets weird. But I'm open to any ideas.

Cool

Let me contact someone I know at the Wolfeboro Chamber of Commerce r.e. needing a permit but I doubt it. Will we need a police patrol should a riot break out amongst fueding factions on the forum??? (kidding!) I do not have Excel on this computer so I can't open 'the file'. (Don't even know what date we are talking about!) I have something called 'Microsoft Works Spreadsheet'. If anyone knows how I can convert this pls send me a private message. (Can a file be posted using Microsoft Word?) thanks Mee-n-Mac!!! McD

Default Trouble with excel file

Couldn't save my inputs to the file after opening it. I got a message saying I had read only privilege.
I would be able to attend on Sat. 9/11, as I know I will definitely by there that whole week. No preference on land or lake. Cate Park in Wolfeboro sounds like a great spot.

I am OK with 9/11 or another day if that does not work out. After Labor Day the number boaters on the lake does seem to go down. Maybe we should do a flotilla of boats* from point "A" (TBD) first to Wolfeboro.

Cate Park in Wolfeboro sounds great but remember if 20 + Forum members arrive by boat, as I would plan to do, the docks will be crowded and that may annoy the locals and others. It may be that we cannot use our boats due to dock space limitations too.

*There should be enough of us who could accomodate those Forum members who do not have a boat.

Smile By land or sea (errr lake)

I'm in. 9/11 sounds good, but I live close to the lake so I'm very very flexible as to the day of the event. Either land or lake is fine - no preference.

Just Sold made a very valid point about the Wolfeboro town docks - I guess until we have some exact numbers of people and who will be by boat and who by land I imagine it will hard to pick a place just yet.

My 2 cents on ideas, would be to have it on the lake and anchor at some sand bar so we can all walk around and chat and have some relaxing fun and there wouldn't be the concern of cost or permits or anything except "is it going to be a sunny day". Seems we have numerous offers from boat owners offering rides, if it is going to be a lake event.

Bring your own food and whatever you like and have some music, good conversation, laughs and who knows...foes may become friends.

P.S. Generally speaking - the sand bars on the lake fill up early, so IF we were to do this we'd need to have some scout boats secure us enough space before 10AM on a Saturday or Sunday. Count me in as a "Scout Boat" volunteer if needed.

If we did a sandbar type thing, I could help out in the "Scout Boat" department as well. Early is definitely key and I am usually out by 8-8:30 am anyway. I could hoist a flag (style to be determined) to help folks identify our spot.

Default Compendium updated 7/23 noon

Here's the latest update in as many formats as I can do. If all else fails I think the tab separated text file is importable into any word or spreadsheet program. It seems as 9/11 is a good date but there are some who can't attend after Labor day ? I assume a weekday is a no-go, so I'll say a Sat (on some date) is prefferable to a Sun (which could be a rainout backup). Can anyone who can't attend on 9/11, or anytime after Labor day, indicate so with a post. If there's enough people who can't do 9/11 can I suggest Sat 8/28 as an alternate date ?

I've added a jpeg to the miscellaneous section of the PhotoPost. I'll add the URL here so it'll display when it becomes available.

I know what you mean. Seems somehow "odd" (I can't quite find the right word) to have a (hopefully) joyous event on that date. It also may be that people can't make it post-Labor day, so the Sat before LD might end up being the most available day*. Should it come to pass that 9/11 is the date, let me propose something stolen from Mcdude and ???. Perhaps the boaters could meet for a parade of flags about the lake then join up with the others at some town docks (ie - @ Wolfeboro should we get in Cate Park) ? Anyway everyone keep throwing in the ideas and sometime next week I think "we" should put it (date and place) to a vote.

*How about (to be said with scary Friday 13'th intonation) WinniForumFest:Grant's Gathering (bwaaahaaa) for a name ? Next year it could be WinniForumFest:RG's Revenge (w/apologies to Rattlesnake Gal)
Get's us out of the whole I, II, III, IV ... thing which has be so done already

Default r.e. Cate Park

I spoke to Evvie (sp?) at the C of C who directed me to Ann Marble at Town Hall. I was not able to get through to her on Friday but will try on Monday. I think the Cate Park idea works best. The 'boating subcommittee' can go rafting at a sandbar during the day, meet up with others in the late afternoon at the park and then the " subcommittee" could meander over to Garwoods? Sounds like more people will be around on 8/28 than 9/11.

Aw......come on F.L.L.!!!! I spoke to the Wolfeboro Town Manager's office this a.m. to find that Ms. Marble is indeed the person that I need to speak to. Regretfully, Ms. Marble is on vacation this week . They will have Ms. Marble call me on 8/2 although they didn't seem to think a small gathering would be a problem. (It is a public park after all. Aren't parks where people gather?)

Question Poll on date

First, thanks to those who filled in some of the ?'s over the last few days. I'll post an updated list later today. Second it seems that most people are willing to have a get together someplace (land or lake) but some can't do a lake activity. For the moment let's assume a gathering on land, perhaps in Wolfboro @ Cate Pk (we'll know more when they get back to mcdude). Given this can we decide on a date ? We've talked about 9/11 and 8/28 but I'm still uncertain if everyone will be around post Labor Day. So I've created a poll (see new thread) to collect some data. If you prefer one of these 2 dates then please vote for it. If one of these dates is bad for you, please vote for the [unspecified] other date, "pre-Labor Day" or "post-Labor Day". I'm assuming everyone is busy the Labor Day weekend. If anyone has a better way to figure this out or to have a better poll - chime in !

I spoke with Ann Marble today (very pleasant) at the Town Manager's Office. I briefly described our little gathering and she said there would be no problem and no permit needed. She did suggest that, as a courtesy, I inform the selectmen (?) by mail .....which I will do. So, I assume the date is 9/11. Are we talking say....3:00 p.m.?

Thumbs up Remember

Remember most towns do not allow on public property. That is usually the first thing they let you know.
