Default When you see more planes on the lake than boats...

...it might be time to wrap it up!

Maybe a forum photo detective can detect if this Laker Amphibian photo www.seabee.info/teal/thurston.htm shows the airplane beached on a Lake Winnipesaukee sandy beach, shoreline?

A different Laker Amphibian photo down at the bottom of the page from 1968 looks like it could be on Lake Winnipesaukee?

Most likely, Laker Amphibians have a cockpit heater and a windshield defroster, just like a car, something that recreational boats do not have.

Apparently, this small airplane did not come equipped with any windshield wipers?

Default More Planes than Boats

If there are more planes than boats on the lake, it's a sure sign that the Alton Runway is open and that a great winter is underway!

My neighbors on the island decided that they didn't want their main house to be in Mass anymore, so they sold and bought an equally expensive house on the mainland in Gilford. I asked him why he didn't just consolidate and buy a mainland lakehouse. He replied that the island house was their lake getaway...an escape so to speak, and if it was on the mainland it wouldn't be that. Maybe someday we'll sell everything else up here and winter in Florida, but in the meantime, we'll keep it like this!

I guess the change is part of what makes it special, right?

Right...was a long season for us. I opened up April 4th, and we're still there!
