Bears Out Now
We have a family of bears that keep coming to our house on Grassy Pond. After the first time they came we brought our feeders in, but they are still coming. The mom and 3 cubs have also been seen on Black Cat Island. I wonder why they are not hibernating and what they are eating? They look quite healthy!

Interesting....I know this sounds crazy but my dogs have different barks. I swear on Friday night I heard the "Bear Bark"....it's kind of like a dog saying "holy crap"....LOL! All kidding aside, they have a bear bark and I heard it Friday night.

They were also seen in a tree on Black Cat Island. A women I know took a photo of them and it was in last week's Meredith News.

Bears don't "truly" hibernate....biologists regularly, wake them up by drugging them to weigh the cubs, if there are any. More like a long nap interrupted by short trips out of the den. If there's an easy, food source, all the better.
That looks like last Spring's cub with a young sow...perhaps she didn't get bred last season and had no cubs this winter. All speculation, of course... |

You Need a Cat!
I can't find the video from which I took the below screenshots.
Do bears experience guilt about their "thefts"? Anyway, the bear comes onto the porch, and grabs a garbage bag. The cat (picture #1) leaps out, the bear runs off the porch, dropping his ill-gained loot. When the bear overcomes his fear of the cat, the cat stands his ground. (picture #2). The video ends with the bear doing a quick end-run around the cat, grabbing the bag, and running off. The video that follows is similar, but the bear suddenly retreats backwards—and falls off the porch... http://wfla.com/2015/06/24/watch-bea...lls-off-porch/
